Earlier, on January 24, applications for entry into the gas transmission system of Ukraine amounted to 58.75 million cubic meters. m. per day against 47.98 million on January 21, while on January 25 Gazprom increased gas transit through Ukraine.

On January 3, the former head of Naftogaz, Andrei Kobolev, said that if the company fails to ensure sufficient fuel imports, then Kiev will have to steal Russian gas from the transit pipe.

Kobolev said that if gas consumption in Ukraine reaches February 2020 levels, then Naftogaz will not be able to cover demand due to a shortage of imports.

The agreement between Moscow and Kiev, concluded for five years, provides for the transit in 2021-2024 of 40 billion cubic meters. m per year. Gazprom pays for the capacities regardless of the actual volumes of transportation through the territory of Ukraine.

At the end of December 2021, Viktor Khaikov, Chairman of the Commission for Innovative Development of the Public Council under the Ministry of Economic Development of the Russian Federation, emphasized that Gazprom is fully fulfilling its obligations to supply gas to Europe under the concluded contracts. Vladislav Belov, deputy director of the Institute of Europe of the Russian Academy of Sciences, agreed with him, according to whom the company fulfills all obligations to supply Europe with gas and even supplied additional volumes there.
