OREANDA-NEWS Ukraine plans to import up to 800 million cubic meters of gas from Europe during February and March to cover a 40% decline in fuel production after infrastructure strikes, the Reuters news agency reported, citing an anonymous source in the Ukrainian gas industry.
"Ukraine plans to import up to 800 million cubic meters of gas from Europe in February and March to compensate for a drop in production, sometimes reaching 40%, after Russian missile strikes on this industry sector," the agency said in a statement.
According to Reuters, before the attacks on the gas infrastructure, Ukraine was producing about 52 million cubic meters of gas per day. Daily gas consumption in winter ranges from 110 to 140 million cubic meters per day, the shortage was covered by reserves in gas storage facilities. At the same time, the Ukrainian version of Forbes reported in late January that Naftogaz began importing gas due to the critical fuel level in storage facilities.
Naftogaz of Ukraine on Thursday reported damage to its facilities in several regions of Ukraine after shelling. The Minister of Energy of Ukraine, German Galushchenko, also spoke about the damage to the gas infrastructure after the explosions.
