OREANDA-NEWS. US President Joe Biden will try to convince the leaders of the EU countries to abandon Russian energy sources, but it is absurd to offer Europe to get away from oil and gas from the Russian Federation, despite the fact that the United States does not even have the opportunity to completely replace them. This was stated by Director of the Energy Development Fund Sergei Pikin in an interview with PolitExpert. True, according to him, politicians from the EU may well agree to Washington's requests.
Politicians have no problems with either gas or oil. They think outside the category of the population, especially now in Europe. Therefore, they can take the opportunity and abandon Russian resources,” Pikin said.
According to the expert, in order to supply a sufficient volume of natural gas to the European Union, the United States will need additional plants, the construction of which will take about two years. Currently, the EU can replace only half of the LNG supplied from Russia.
Earlier, economist Vasily Koltashov agreed with the statement of Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak that fuel prices in the world will rise to several hundred dollars per barrel if Western countries abandon Russian oil. According to him, this is quite natural, because the rise in prices was predicted several years ago. The expert also drew attention to the fact that Western countries are not quite competent monetary policy, which leads to an increase in energy prices.
