OREANDA-NEWS. Deliveries of liquefied natural gas (LNG) from terminals to the gas transmission system of Europe in April 2022 set a record for this month - they amounted to 10.65 billion cubic meters. m., TASS reports with reference to Gas Infrastructure Europe (GIE) data. The company has been monitoring gas flows from LNG terminals to Europe since 2011.
The previous record was set in April 219, when liquefied gas receipts from terminals amounted to 10.21 billion cubic meters. m. According to the company, LNG stocks in the EU are now 10% higher than in 2021, and 8% more than the five-year average.
In total, since the beginning of this year, LNG supplies from terminals to the gas transmission system of Europe amounted to about 41.6 billion cubic meters. m.
Against the backdrop of Russia's military operation in Ukraine, EU countries are trying to reduce their dependence on Russian energy supplies. In particular, Poland will no longer buy gas from Russia, Piotr Naimsky, the country's authorized representative for strategic energy infrastructure, said. This decision followed after Gazprom stopped gas supplies to Poland on April 27 due to the fact that the republic refused to pay for Russian gas according to the new calculation scheme. After that, the Polish authorities announced that by 2025 they plan to build a floating terminal in Gdansk to receive LNG.
At the same time, according to Anadolu, the European Union has paid Russia €47 billion for energy supplies since the start of the Russian special military operation in Ukraine. The EU transfers $450 million daily for oil and $400 million for natural gas supplies.
