OREANDA-NEWS European Commissioner for Economic Affairs Paolo Gentiloni said that the member states of the European Union are currently unable to agree on an embargo on Russian oil imports. It is reported by TASS.
“We cannot yet complete the discussion of this issue,” the European Commissioner said at a press conference in Brussels.
Earlier it became known that the embargo on Russian oil is not spelled out in the baseline scenario of the spring economic forecast of the European Commission (EC) for 2022-2023.
Prior to this, German Foreign Minister Annalena Berbock said that the decision on the gradual abandonment of Russian oil by the European Union as part of the sixth package of anti-Russian sanctions would be made in the coming days.
The introduction of an oil embargo against Russia in the European Union has been actively discussed since the beginning of May, but so far the dialogue on this issue has not led to a consensus. In particular, Hungary is blocking the relevant ban, insisting on extending the transition period and / or withdrawing the country from restrictions. At the same time, not only Budapest, but also a number of other states, including Bulgaria, are not ready to completely abandon Russian oil.
