OREANDA-NEWS After the start of Russia's special operation in Ukraine, China has become the largest buyer of Russian energy resources, pushing Germany out of first place, Handelsblatt reported, citing data from the Helsinki-based Center for Energy and Clean Air Research, Gazeta.ru reported.
Since February 24, Russia has earned more than €93 billion from the sale of oil, natural gas and coal. Of this amount, the European Union countries accounted for €57 billion. Of which Germany bought resources for €12.1 billion, Italy bought for €7.8 billion and the Netherlands spent the same amount. Poland bought €4.4bn worth of Russian energy resources.
The publication noted that Germany was only behind China. Since the end of February, it has imported €12.6 billion worth of energy resources from Russia. This happened because European countries began to abandon Russian resources in droves and China began to take a more weighty position in Russia's energy sector.
Earlier, the General Administration of Customs of China reported that trade turnover between Russia and China in the period from January to May 2022 increased by 28.9%, reaching $ 65.81 billion.
