OREANDA-NEWS. Germany in the future will "completely and forever" refuse to supply energy from Russia, said German Foreign Minister Annalena Berbock during her visit to Kyiv. She stressed that Germany will gradually reduce its dependence on Russian energy carriers.
We will consistently reduce our dependence on Russian energy carriers to zero, and forever,” she said.
Earlier, Bloomberg revealed the content of the sixth package of EU sanctions against Russia. Europe plans to completely abandon purchases of Russian oil by the end of this year, as well as disconnect a number of banks from the SWIFT system.
At the same time, as the agency's analyst Julian Lee noted, the European Union will not be able to reduce oil exports from Russia to absolute zero. According to him, this is unrealistic and irrational. If sanctions are imposed against buyers of Russian fuel, it will be absolute suicide for Europe, he said.
On May 8, it became known that the permanent representatives of the EU countries could not reach a consensus on the next package of sanctions against Russia, which involves a gradual embargo on Russian oil. Hungary continued to block the European Union's proposal to ban Russian oil imports, sources familiar with the talks said.
Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban said earlier that his country and the EU as a whole were not ready to accept the proposal of the European Commission to impose an embargo on Russian oil. He believes that sanctions should be taken at a time when all the necessary preconditions are met. The Bulgarian authorities also demanded to postpone the imposition of an embargo on Russian oil supplies.
