OREANDA-NEWS. Bulgarian Prime Minister Kiril Petkov said that his country allows new negotiations with Gazprom on gas supplies in the future. This is reported by the TV channel Nova.
The head of the Bulgarian government said that Sofia must be prepared for any scenario, including the cessation of gas supplies from Russia. He also noted that it will be possible to deliver 3 billion cubic meters of Azerbaijani gas through the Bulgarian-Greek gas pipeline under construction.
“If things go better, there will be no war and it will be possible to negotiate, and Gazprom's gas will be in our structure. But it’s a completely different thing to negotiate with a country when there are different options,” Petkov said.
Earlier, Bloomberg claimed that Bulgaria would not renew the contract with Gazprom for the supply of natural gas. The minister of finance of the republic, Asen Vasilev, said that there could be no more negotiations with this company.
It is noted that Bulgaria has already discussed the use of the existing infrastructure for LNG supplies with Greece and Turkey, and also held talks on increasing gas supplies with representatives of Azerbaijan.
At the same time, the Russian side has repeatedly stressed that it continues to fully fulfill its obligations to supply oil and gas to Europe. According to Aleksey Paramonov, director of the first European department of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Moscow has never used the export of hydrocarbons as an instrument of political pressure.
