OREANDA-NEWS. The British multinational oil and gas company British Petroleum (BP) has announced its intention to stop making new deals to buy oil and gas from Russia. This was reported by Bloomberg with reference to a comment by a company representative, TASS writes.
“The only exception would be a situation in which there would be a threat to the security of energy supplies to consumers,” he said.
Earlier, another British oil and gas company, Shell, announced the abandonment of Russian oil and gas. The company clarified that they would also refuse to participate in all oil and gas projects in Russia, and as a first step, they would stop all spot purchases of oil.
"Shell today announced its intention to phase out participation in all Russian hydrocarbons, including crude oil, petroleum products, gas and liquefied natural gas (LNG), in accordance with new government guidance," the company said in a statement.
Shell will also stop all spot purchases of Russian crude oil, close its filling stations and the production of aviation fuel and lubricants in Russia.
On February 27, BP announced that it was selling a 19.75% stake in the Russian company Rosneft due to the Russian special operation in Ukraine. The Board of Directors announced the disposal of its stake in Rosneft, which has been at the disposal of BP since 2013. Also, the executive director of BP, Bernard Looney, announced the immediate resignation from the board of directors of the Russian company.
