OREANDA-NEWS. US President Joe Biden said that it was impossible to stop the construction of the Nord Stream 2 pipeline: it was 99% complete. The words of the American leader are quoted by the White House press pool.

On the eve it became known that Berlin and Washington signed an agreement: Germany pledged to seek sanctions from Brussels against Moscow if Russia uses energy exports as a weapon against European states.

The United States, which is interested in promoting its LNG to the EU countries, as well as Ukraine, Poland, Lithuania and Latvia, who call the project political, actively oppose it.

In this regard, Washington has imposed sanctions four times, but the construction has reached its final stage and should be completed by the end of the summer.

Meanwhile, Ukraine does not lose hope of preventing the completion of the construction of Nord Stream 2. Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Dmitry Razumkov in an open letter addressed the US Congress with a request to continue the policy of sanctions that would prevent the completion of Nord Stream 2.

"I appeal to the US Congress to consistently continue the policy of sanctions that would prevent the completion and commissioning of the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline and, if necessary, consider the possibility of introducing additional enhanced sanctions against legal entities and individuals involved in the construction of Nord Stream. - 2 ", - the letter says.

Razumkov called on Congress to refrain from approving any agreements that would threaten Europe's energy security and pose a threat to the national interests of Ukraine and the United States.
