The Berlin television tower on the Alexanderplatz will be this year's main attraction
OREANDA-NEWS. With support from E.ON, the Berlin television tower on the Alexanderplatz will be this year's main attraction. As part of the event, "We Love Berlin," anybody can take part in the fabulous light art project. This is how it works: Through September 26, participants can submit a photograph or video of Berlin to the Festival of Lights website. Using the best of these, Berlin artist Tina Zimmermann will create a collage that will be projected onto the television tower nightly during the festival, shining out across Berlin.
In addition, E.ON will offer visitors the opportunity to follow the most attractive illuminations in real time via smartphone. E.ON has created a so-called "Heatmap" that will show where in the festival the most pictures are being shot at any moment. Festival attendees simply upload their festival picture to Instagram and give it the hashtag #lightsbyEON. All photographs are indicated as flashing dots on the "Heatmap". The platform www.eon-fol.com will link together all the festival activities. E.ON will hold a draw from those participating for a trip for two to Iceland.
"E.ON is an innovative partner that's ready to offer its own ideas for the festival. The common purpose of E.ON and the festival is to enhance the quality of life in Berlin. In this way, our city derives the greatest possible benefit from the partnership," said Birgit Zander, head of the Festival of Lights in introducing the festival program.
"We set ourselves the goal of helping Berlin achieve its ambitious climate protection targets and in positioning itself as a global beacon in the urban energy revolution. If, in serving as sponsor of the Festival of Lights, we can also make a contribution towards establishing Berlin as a cultural metropolis, that makes it an excellent match," emphasized Marten Bunnemann, who as head of business development at E.ON Germany oversees E.ON's activities in Berlin.
E.ON is the largest shareholder in the Berlin gas utility, Gasag, maintains several locations in Berlin and is currently setting up a unit for sustainable city solutions in Berlin to put forward key ideas aimed at bringing about the urban energy revolution in Germany.
