Consumers Energy Takes Swing at Helping Public Raise Funds for Home Run for Habitat Campaign
OREANDA-NEWS. Consumers Energy is contributing up to $100,000 to match Michigan residents' contributions to this year's Home Run for Habitat fundraising campaign, building on a relationship to provide energy-efficient housing across the state. Consumers Energy has made over $950,000 in contributions to Habitat for Humanity of Michigan since 2001.
"Caring for the communities we serve is our Promise to Michigan. We applaud Habitat for Humanity of Michigan for its work to build homes that form the backbone of those communities," said Garrick Rochow, Consumers Energy's vice president and chief customer officer. "We're pleased to support the Home Run for Habitat campaign, providing valuable dollars that will continue to support Habitat's mission."
"Habitat for Humanity is designing some of the most energy efficient homes in the state, which would not be possible without Consumers Energy's continued support and dedication to our mission," said Sandy Pearson, president and CEO of Habitat for Humanity of Michigan. "The Home Run for Habitat campaign lets us expand our impact throughout communities in Michigan, bringing safety, stability and more money in the pockets of our families as the result of energy efficient improvements to their homes."
Consumers Energy is matching dollars that the public donates to the Home Run for Habitat campaign during this Detroit Tigers season. On Saturday, Consumers Energy will present a check representing last year's Home for Habitat contributions before the Tigers home game at Comerica Park. Contributions support Habitat's statewide ReBuild Michigan campaign, which funds work in nearly every county.
Over 400 Consumers Energy employees also volunteered last year in company-sponsored Habitat projects across the state, and several employees sit on the leadership boards of Habitat affiliates.
Consumers Energy's Helping Neighbors program provides energy efficiency upgrades to residents of Habitat legacy homes in several counties. Measures have been installed to increase energy efficiency, including attic insulation, CFL and LED bulbs, and more.
Consumers Energy, Michigan's largest utility, is the principal subsidiary of CMS Energy (NYSE: CMS), providing natural gas and electricity to 6.7 million of the state's 10 million residents in all 68 Lower Peninsula counties.
Habitat for Humanity believes that every man, woman and child should have a safe, decent and affordable home. To make this possible, Habitat for Humanity of Michigan partners with the Habitat for Humanity affiliates throughout the state to assist them to reach their maximum sustainable capacity within their individual communities by supporting the further development of their leadership, procedures and resources.
