OREANDA-NEWS A water leak was detected at one of the reactors of the Zaporizhia NPP, repair work is underway, the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) reported.
On Tuesday, October 29, the organization's experts visited power unit No. 1 after receiving information about a water leak in the reactor coolant pump support system. To carry out welding work, it was necessary to reduce the pressure in the primary circuit to atmospheric levels. Radiographic inspection of the welds is currently underway.
"The Agency will continue to closely monitor this issue, although we do not see any immediate problems for nuclear safety. In general, regular maintenance of the equipment it is a difficult task for the NPP during the conflict," the IAEA said in a statement.
It is noted that the organization's specialists stationed at the station continue to hear the sounds of explosions every day, while there were no reports of any damage at the facility.
IAEA experts have been present at the NPP since September 1, 2022, after the first visit to the station by the agency's Director General, Rafael Grossi.
The NPP is located on the left bank of the Dnieper River near the town of Energodar. This is the largest plant in Europe in terms of the number of units and installed capacity, there are six power units with a capacity of one gigawatt each. In October 2022, the facility became the property of Russia.
