OREANDA-NEWS RT-Invest Group of Companies (part of Rostec) has commissioned Russia's first power plant that will generate energy from recycled waste, the state corporation said.
"The first of five waste energy recycling plants built in the city district of Voskresensk by RT-Invest Group of companies, put into operation. The company is ready to receive and dispose of waste and will reach its full design capacity in the first quarter of 2025," the report says.
The plant will be able to process 700,000 tons of household waste per year, the so—called tailings that remain after sorting and are unsuitable for recycling. It will produce 520 million kWh of green energy per year, which is enough to provide electricity to 80,000 residents.
In total, RT-Invest is building four energy recycling plants in the Moscow region with a total capacity of 2.8 million tons of waste per year, and it is also building another one in Tatarstan with a capacity of 550 thousand tons of waste per year.
The total capacity of the five power plants is about 3.3 million tons of waste per year. This is at least 60 million garbage bags annually, which will not be buried in landfills, but "will be recycled for the benefit of the economy and people," Rostec added. The new facilities will produce over 2.2 million MWh of green energy, reduce carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions by 3.8 million tons per year, and improve the quality of life for more than 18 million people.
