US Accuses Huawei of Covert Access to Mobile Networks throughout the World
OREANDA-NEWS. The Wall Street Journal, citing statements by US officials, writes that the Chinese company Huawei has covert access to mobile phone networks around the world.
As the publication explains, when manufacturers of telecommunications equipment sell it to mobile operators, they must leave a “back door” for access to networks by the authorities. The manufacturer, as expected, cannot use the “back door” without the knowledge of the operator. The procedure for law enforcement access to the interception mechanism is regulated by each country individually.
“We have evidence that Huawei has the capability secretly to access sensitive and personal information in systems it maintains and sells around the world,” the US National Security Adviser Robert O’Brien said. According to the publication, the Chinese company, which denies all charges, has been acting in this way for more than ten years. At the same time, US officials refused to tell the newspaper if they had observed the use of the Huawei’s “back door.”
