Twitter Promised Roskomnadzor to Comply with Russian Law
OREANDA-NEWS. Roskomnadzor spoke about how Twitter is fulfilling its promise to deal with illegal information recognized in Russia - child pornography, narcotic and suicidal content. According to the regulator, social networks have not yet managed to comply with Russian legislation.
The message on the Roskomnadzor website says: since March 10, when the agency began to slow down Twitter traffic, the administration of the social network has blocked only about 60% of illegal materials - about 2,000 out of 3,000 identified publications of this kind. 1000 materials remain in the public domain.
In addition, another 900 new Twitter posts have been found to be in violation of Russian law since March 10. Roskomnadzor estimates that it takes Twitter on average 81 hours to respond to a Russian regulator's request. According to the law, this delay should not exceed a day from the moment of receipt of the notification from the executive authority.
As told in the department, on Wednesday this week its representatives spoke via video link with two top managers of Twitter - the vice president of public policy in Europe, the Middle East and Africa, Sinead McSwinney, and the vice president of legal affairs of Twitter Inc, Jim Baker.
The administration of the social network, according to Roskomnadzor, announced its readiness to remove or block the remaining illegal materials as a matter of priority, as well as to increase the responsiveness to the requirements of Roskomnadzor. In addition, the parties agreed to organize a direct line of communication between Roskomnadzor divisions and the Twitter moderation service.
