SpaceX Prepares to Launch New Group of Starlink Internet Satellites
OREANDA-NEWS. The American company SpaceX plans to launch another batch of 60 Starlink Internet satellites into orbit on Tuesday, May 4, according to the specialized website NASASpaceflight.
The launch of the Falcon 9 heavy launch vehicle with mini-satellites to replenish the orbital grouping of the global Internet coverage of the Starlink system is expected to be carried out at 15:01 East Coast time (at 22:01 Moscow time) from Launch complex 39A at the Cape Canaveral cosmodrome (Florida).
This will be the 26th launch of a group of Internet satellites since May 2019 as part of the Starlink project. SpaceX's orbital constellation already consists of 1,503 spacecraft. The previous batch of 60 Starlink satellites was launched on April 29.
In the future, SpaceX plans to deploy an orbital grouping of 12 thousand spacecraft of this type (and later — 30 thousand) to create a full-scale network, that will provide the inhabitants of the Earth with broadband Internet access in any corner of the planet. The total investment in the project is estimated at $10 billion.
