Social Network Likee Plans to Open a Representative Office in Russia
OREANDA-NEWS. The social network Likee, owned by the Singapore company Bigo Technology, which is part of the Chinese JOYY Inc, plans to soon open its representative office in Russia, the press service of the social network told RIA Novosti.
"Likee's head office is located in Singapore, and soon we are planning to open a representative office in Russia," the press service said.
At the end of last year, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed the law on large social networks. These include social networks with traffic of 500 thousand users per day. Social networks must create a representative office in Russia, are required to moderate content and block hate speech, discrediting inaccurate data and other illegal information. Social networks must also maintain a register of user complaints and submit it to regulatory authorities upon request. The law entered into force on February 1, 2021.
Last week, Roskomnadzor announced that it began to form a register of social networks to monitor their compliance with the requirements of Russian law and has already included Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, TikTok, Likee, YouTube, VKontakte and Odnoklassniki in it.
As indicated in the press service, Likee "worked with Roskomnadzor and voluntarily registered as a social network." To detect and eliminate content that is contrary to the principles of the Likee community, a mechanism powered by artificial intelligence technology operates on the social network. In August of this year, the social network removed more than 130 thousand videos for non-compliance with the principles.
"Among other things, videos depicting violence, criminal or dangerous behavior, illegal activities, dangerous people and organizations, as well as containing false information or inciting hatred are prohibited," the press service explained.
In addition, Likee has a parental control function that allows you to "filter minor content", in particular, to block the publication and viewing of certain videos. By the end of the year, the social network plans to improve artificial intelligence "to filter content even more efficiently", update private mode and simplify the process of filing complaints from users.
