OREANDA-NEWS The fact that Rosatom will be able to fully launch its MVNO (mobile virtual network operator, virtual mobile operator) in 2024, RBC was informed by Evgeny Abakumov, Information Technology Director of the state corporation. According to him, during the implementation of the project, "a number of organizational and technological difficulties arose," but, he stressed, the company "does not abandon the project."
Virtual operators provide services under their own brand on the networks of existing cellular companies. As follows from the materials of Roskomnadzor, licenses for the provision of services under the MVNO model were obtained by several Rosatom structures, including the developer of IT solutions "Greenatom" and the developer of cloud solutions "Atomdata". The representative of Rosatom noted that it has not yet been finally decided which of the structures will implement the project.
Abakumov also explained that the creation of MVNO was planned for the deployment of the fourth generation of mobile communication (4G) technology networks in the Private LTE format (private networks created for one enterprise) at Rosatom facilities. "Due to the introduction of sensors and the Internet of Things in the enterprise, it is possible to increase the efficiency of many processes. We need our own operator to provide wireless Internet of Things services to solve the corporation's tasks," says Abakumov. He also said that Rosatom decided to partially build its own network, rather than use the capacities of existing operators, since the issue of where data will be stored is sensitive for the state corporation. In particular, because of this, the project has not yet been fully launched — most of the operators with whom Rosatom is negotiating the use of the network receive and store data at their facilities, the IT director of Rosatom added.
