Database with the Information of Several Million Telegram Users Got into the Darknet
OREANDA-NEWS. The database with information about several million users of the messenger Telegram got into the darknet. This was reported by the portal Kod.ru. The database contains unique identifiers and phone numbers of users. The file takes about 900 megabytes.
The press service of Telegram confirmed the existence of the database, but assured that most of the accounts in it are no longer relevant. Such databases usually contain corresponded telephone number and user identifier in Telegram, the messenger’s representative explained. They are collected through abuse of the built-in contact import feature during user registration. Not a single service that allows users to communicate with contacts from their phone books can completely eliminate such a sorting.
The press service also informed that almost 70 % of the accounts in the database are owned by users from Iran, and 30 % by users from Russia.
