CNN Appeals to Russian Authorities Over Special Ops Fake Law
Source: OREANDA-NEWS
OREANDA-NEWS. The leadership of the CNN channel asked the Russian authorities to withdraw them from the Russian law on fakes, RIA Novosti reports, citing a diplomatic source.
According to him, high-ranking representatives of the TV channel asked that journalists working in Russia be given written guarantees of protection against persecution by law enforcement agencies. In particular, we are talking about exempting CNN correspondents from liability under the law on the dissemination of fakes about a special operation in Ukraine.
The diplomat called this proposal "a surprising initiative in its creativity."
“Especially when you consider how often CNN emphasized their “independence” and “remoteness” from power,” he said.
On February 24, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced a special operation to protect Donbass in response to a request for help from the heads of the DPR and LPR. Ukraine severed diplomatic relations with the Russian Federation.
March 4, Putin signed a federal law criminalizing fake news about the Russian Armed Forces and calls for anti-Russian sanctions, March 4. The law establishes criminal liability “for public dissemination of knowingly false information under the guise of reliable messages” that contains data on the use of the Russian Armed Forces in order to protect the interests of the country and its citizens, “maintaining international peace and security.”
