Alleged iPhone 7 cases identical to those for iPhone 6, 6S
At the Computers Unlimited Exposed event in London on Tuesday, iPhone accessories maker Cygnett took the wraps off a series of case designs and a glass screen protector, claiming they were created for the iPhone 7, according to blog site Pocket-Lint. The twist is that these items also fit the iPhone 6S, which Cygnett actually used to show off the products. That would then mean the iPhone 7 will retain the same body size and shape as that of last year's model.
Apple reported its first drop in iPhone sales last quarter, presumably in large part because the iPhone 6S and 6S Plus didn't offer the necessary must-have features to attract enough buyers. To regain lost sales and customers, Apple needs to revamp this year's iPhone with some innovative specs that can tempt buyers seeking a new phone.
The screen protector showed off by Cygnett sports two holes at the top, which could simply be a defect, according to Pocket-Lint, as some iPhone 6S handsets have been seen with the same two holes, while most units have just one hole. As always, these rumors and items should be taken with a grain of salt. Even though Cygnett said they are genuine, there's no way to confirm that independently.
Previous reports have suggested that the iPhone 7 would come with stereo speakers, get rid of the traditional audio port and offer a dual camera (but only on the iPhone 7 Plus). However, the sense among certain analysts, such as KGI Securities Ming-Chi Kuo, is that this year's lineup won't offer the features needed to captivate smartphone buyers.
Apple did not immediately respond to CNET's request for comment.
