The purchase of the social network Twitter by businessman Elon Musk is a serious blow to the US Democratic Party and American liberals in general, according to Americanist Dmitry Drobnitsky. He suggested that the deal could radically affect the political situation in the United States, writes Lenta.ru.

This is a blow to the Democrats, first of all, because liberal censorship is very tough on social networks. And Musk kept saying that he had a libertarian attitude to freedom of speech, so to speak: write whatever you want, there is no hatspeech and so on, in fact it’s all censorship. By and large, this is true, especially when it comes to Western politics. They really try to shut their mouths in one way or another,” Drobnitsky said.

In his opinion, Twitter is the most representative social network when it comes to political figures. At the same time, the Americanist stressed that the decisive factor in the issue of the US elections is still the economic situation in the country.

Bret Taylor, an independent director of Twitter's board of directors, said the board "undertook a thoughtful and comprehensive evaluation process for the proposal."
