Hungary Subjected to Political Attacks due to Sputnik-V and Sinopharm Vaccine Choices
OREANDA-NEWS Hungary has faced pressure from Western countries over the decision to cooperate with Russia and China on the procurement of Sputnik V and Sinopharm coronavirus vaccines. This information was provided by Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Siyarto in an interview with RT.
After the information that Hungary was going to discuss the purchase of Sputnik V and Sinopharm vaccines, the country's authorities came under a large-scale political attack. “Because we decided to turn to the east, instead of looking only to the west when it comes to purchasing vaccines,” Peter Siyarto comments on this situation.
The Minister noted that the choice of vaccines is conditioned by the results of a detailed analysis of Hungarian experts. A delegation of experts was sent from Hungary to Russia and visited the places where the vaccine was produced. The experts studied the documentation and decided that the Russian vaccine is indeed effective and safe.
Earlier, Siyjarto said that Hungary and Serbia did the right thing by deciding to buy vaccines against coronavirus from Russia and China. The diplomat himself was vaccinated against the coronavirus with the Russian Sputnik V vaccine.
Hungary in November 2020 became the first EU country to receive samples of the Sputnik V vaccine for research. In February 2021, the National Center for Public Health approved the use of a Russian drug in the country. Currently, five drugs are available for vaccination in the country: the American-German consortium Pfizer-BioNTech, the American company Moderna, the British-Swedish AstraZeneca, the Russian Sputnik V vaccine and the drug produced by the Chinese company Sinopharm.
