China Detects World's First Human Case of H10N3 Avian Influenza

The world's first human case of H10N3 avian influenza has been identified in Jiangsu province in eastern China. This is stated in a statement published on Tuesday by the State Committee on Hygiene and Health of the People's Republic of China.

According to the report, the 41-year-old Zhenjiang resident felt a fever in the end of April, went to a doctor a few days later due to a worsening of his condition, and was hospitalized. Now his condition has stabilized and practically meets the criteria for discharge.

On May 28, the National Center for Disease Control and Prevention, after receiving the patient materials, analyzed them and found that the man had contracted H10N3. All people in contact with him are now under the supervision of doctors, among them there are no sick ones yet.

According to the ministry, "H10N3 originated from birds, as analysis of the genome showed that the virus does not have an effective ability to infect humans." There have been no cases of human infection with H10N3 in the world before, it is transmitted between birds and has a low pathogenicity.
