Wine production in Russia has increased dramatically

OREANDA-NEWS In Russia, wine production increased sharply in the first half of 2024. Irina Fedina, Deputy Director of the Department of Food and Processing Industry of the Ministry of Agriculture of the Russian Federation, told about this during the press conference of the Wine Guide of Russia, as quoted by TASS.
Thus, sparkling and fortified wines in the country in January-June were produced by 21 percent more, and the growth in the production of fortified wines amounted to 73 percent at once. In general, the production of wine products in the Russian Federation increased by 21 percent, and sales volume increased by almost 5 percent year—on-year. At the same time, sales of sparkling wines increased by 13 percent, fortified wine — by 12 percent, added the director of the Department of the Ministry of Agriculture.
Fedina also called the Krasnodar Territory the leader of the domestic wine industry, in this region wine sales increased by 9 percent in six months, which is higher than the all-Russian indicator. Kuban produces 43 percent of all Russian wine and champagne.
Earlier it became known that in May 2024, the supply of European wine to Russia fell to the lowest level since February 2015. Imports decreased 2.5 times month-on-month, to 8,9 thousand tons. For comparison: eight years ago, EU countries supplied 8.5 thousand tons of wine to Russia.
