OREANDA-NEWS The Russian market of drugs and medical devices is growing both in monetary and physical terms. This was stated by Deputy Prime Minister Tatyana Golikova at the strategic session on the national project "New technologies for saving health". Her performance is broadcast by Izvestia.

According to her, 63 percent of medicines sold in Russia are manufactured in the country. This is one in three packages out of five consumed by citizens. Almost 46 percent of all names of medicines, including vital ones, are produced in Russia on a full cycle, including the synthesis of the substance. One third of all purchased medical products are made in Russia.

"The average annual increase in the volume of industrial production of medicines and medical devices comes in third place among other industries," Golikova said.

In 2023, imports of medical devices decreased by 4.5 percentage points. On the one hand, this is due to the development of local production of cheaper and more competitive products. On the other hand, with a decrease in actual demand after the hype of demand in 2022.

She recalled that almost 118 million people receive medical care in Russia every year, that is, 81 percent of the population.

Earlier, Russian Finance Minister Anton Siluanov promised that the Russian government would not allow the rise in price of medicines due to the collection of excise duty on medical alcohol. In other words, pharmaceutical substations for the production of medicines will be removed from the taxation system in the amount of up to 50 thousand decaliters per enterprise.

In early June 2024, Health Minister Mikhail Murashko said that if there was a risk of a shortage of drugs needed in Russia, decisions would be made to speed up their delivery to the market. We are talking about generics or biosimilars.
