OREANDA-NEWS. The largest diamond in Europe with a mass of 222.09 carats was found at the V. Grib deposit in the Mezen district of the Arkhangelsk region. This was reported on Tuesday to the Russian media in the press service of the company "AGD Diamonds".
"A diamond weighing 222.09 carats was discovered - the largest in the history of diamond mining in the region and the largest in Europe. Before that, the largest stone also found in the Grib deposit was 181.68 carats, it was named Archangel Mikhail". The stone that has been mined now will also be given a name", the press service said.
In addition, the report says, on July 13, a diamond of a very rare lemon color and gem quality of 47.61 carats was mined at the V. Grib deposit, and on July 8, a large gem quality diamond with a mass of 81.02 carats was found. As explained to the Russian media in the press service, all the stones will be sold. “We sell stones on the world market, the largest buyers are Israel and Belgium. Our diamonds will be sent to Antwerp”, the agency’s source said.
The diamond mine named V. Grib in the Mezensky District is one of the largest in the world, ranking fourth in terms of reserves in Russia and seventh in the world.
Earlier, the Alrosa diamond mining company presented a new collection of diamonds. According to preliminary estimates, the cost of the most expensive stone in the collection - a pink diamond weighing 14.83 carats - will be from $ 1 million to $ 2.5 million per carat, Deputy Director General of Alrosa, Yuri Okoemov, who oversees the company's sales policy, told reporters. The diamond, from which the unique diamond is made, has become the largest pink diamond mined in Russia: before that, the largest pink diamond of Alrosa weighed 3.86 carats, the company said.
