The Head of Nord Stream 2 AG: the US Sanctions Violated the Interests of the Ukrainian Side
"The Russians were not thanked for this. The Russians made upfront payments - and although the transit agreement was concluded, the US was subsequently forced to suspend work on the pipeline by its sanctions. This showed how unpredictable American politics can be and also eroded Russian confidence", - Warnig emphasized.
The head of Nord Stream 2 AG also recalled the risk of new sanctions of the USA against the pipeline.
“They detained us for a year and a half, which cost us hundreds of millions” , - he said.
Nord Stream 2 is a gas pipeline project between Russia and Germany on the bottom of the Baltic Sea with a length of over 1,200 kilometers. The pipe-laying work began in 2018. The gas pipeline is planned to be completed this year.
The United States actively opposed the project, hoping to supply its liquefied natural gas to Europe.
