OREANDA-NEWS The EU will be able to purchase 275,000 tons of aluminum from Russia under quotas during the year before a possible total ban on its imports as part of a new package of anti-Russian sanctions, Bloomberg reports, citing a document at its disposal.
"The sanctions package will allow European buyers to import 275,000 tons of Russian metal under a quota system for one year before a complete ban (on aluminum imports - ed.) comes into force," the agency said in a statement.
According to the document, import quotas will be regulated by the member states and the EU executive body. According to the agency's sources, the implementation of the EU's plans will require the support of all member states. It is also possible that the plans may change before they are officially proposed to EU members.
Earlier, Bloomberg reported that the European Commission proposes to gradually ban the import of Russian aluminum. According to her plan, customers in Europe will be able to buy it under a quota system for a year, and then a complete ban on these operations will come into force.
The Russian Federation has repeatedly stated that the country will cope with the sanctions pressure that the West began to exert on Russia several years ago and continues to strengthen. Moscow noted that the West lacks the courage to admit the failure of sanctions against Russia. Western countries themselves have repeatedly expressed the opinion that anti-Russian sanctions are ineffective.
Russian President Vladimir Putin has previously stated that the policy of containing and weakening Russia is a long-term strategy of the West, and sanctions have dealt a serious blow to the entire global economy. According to him, the main goal of the West is to worsen the lives of millions of people.
