OREANDA-NEWS The new vaccine against coronavirus infection, developed by the Russian Vector Center, is planned to be registered next week, as the head of the center Rinat Maksyutov said.

As he said in an interview with the stopkoronavirus.ru portal, the planned date of registration of the long-expected vaccine, which is called EpiVacCorona, is October 15, 2020.

The first persons who will be vaccinated with the new drug will participants in post-marketing clinical trials.

Rinat Maksyutov also added that they are planning one more separate post-marketing clinical study involving 150 volunteers over 60 years old.

EpiVacCorona is not the only vaccine from coronavirus. It has become the second one registered against COVID-19.The first vaccine was Sputnik V, created by the Gamaleya Research Center for Electrochemistry and Technology. Moreover, a drug developed by the Chumakov Institute is undergoing clinical tests.

The development of an effective vaccine against coronavirus remains a major national challenge. Russia remains in fourth place in terms of the number of infected with COVID-19. Over the past day, a record number of new cases was revealed in the country - 12 126.
