Sputnik V Creators will Present a Vaccine Against the Indian Strain of Coronavirus
OREANDA-NEWS. The Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF) plans to offer manufacturers a vaccine adapted to the Indian strain of the coronavirus. This was reported on the Twitter account of the vaccine manufacturer.
“Sputnik V will soon offer other vaccine manufacturers a booster vaccine adapted to work against the delta variant of the coronavirus, first discovered in India,” it said.
Earlier, the head of the Vector Center, Rinat Maksyutov, assessed the effectiveness of the EpiVacCorona vaccine against the new Indian strain of coronavirus. According to him, the drug is effective against the British strain, but its level of protection is slightly reduced against the South African and Indian strains.
The Indian strain of COVID-19 this week has spread to more than 70 countries and has become dominant in the UK. It is noted that over the past week in the country, despite a fairly good rate of vaccination, more than 30 thousand cases of coronavirus were detected, 90% of which fell on Delta.
Public Health England said the new strain was 64% more infectious than other varieties of coronavirus, and slightly more resistant to existing vaccines.
Four vaccines against coronavirus have been registered in Russia. The first drug to be registered was Sputnik V, which is based on the human adenovirus. Then three more domestic vaccines were registered - EpiVacCorona, KoviVak, as well as the one-component Sputnik Light.
