OREANDA-NEWS. Zvezda Shipbuilding Complex and Korean Samsung Heavy Industries signed an agreement to create a joint venture for the construction of shuttle tankers. This is stated in the materials of Rosneft, prepared as part of the Eastern Economic Forum for the visit of the Russian leader and Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi to the shipyard. Rosneft is part of the Zvezda investor consortium. Shuttle tankers are planned to be built with a deadweight of 42 thousand to 120 thousand tons.
Samsung as part of a deal, will provide the Russian super shipyard with all the necessary detailed documentation for basic and expert ship design, and will also help with the development of detailed design documentation for shuttle tankers. In addition, the Korean company will technically support the management, quality control of construction and installation works, procurement of materials and equipment, as well as train Russian personnel at its shipyard.
The companies within the framework of the forum concluded another contract, according to which Samsung Heavy Industries will design gas carriers for Arctic LNG-2. They will be built at the Zvezda shipyard and will meet all the requirements of Russian legislation, which will allow recognizing gas carriers as completely Russian. As noted in the message, this will be the first ever construction of ships of this type at a Russian shipyard. The design will allow gas carriers to overcome ice up to 2.1 m thick.
Last year, NOVATEK reserved the production facilities of Zvezda for a series of gas carrier vessels for Arctic LNG-2. VEB will finance the project, which will provide the company with a loan of approximately $ 5 billion for this purpose (the cost of one vessel is about $ 330 million). In April this year, the shipyard signed a contract with Sovcomflot for the construction of a pilot Arctic gas carrier vessel.
