OREANDA-NEWS. Uralvagonzavod is creating the first prototypes of Shturm strike robots designed for urban combat. Within the framework of the project, it is planned to create a mobile control point for combat vehicles, as well as the vehicles themselves with different combat modules. All vehicles are built on the chassis of the T-72B3 tank. a source in the military-industrial complex said.

The robots will be equipped with various weapon systems, in particular, a shortened 125-millimeter cannon. The range of its fire, of course, will decrease, but in urban conditions this is not a matter of principle, the developers say. Conversely, a short barrel will make it easier to maneuver in narrow streets.

According to the second interlocutor of the agency, other variants of the complex's combat modules will be equipped with a bumblebee jet flamethrower unit, paired 30-mm automatic cannons, and a 220-mm thermobaric unguided rockets unit.

Combat vehicles, in turn, will have a high level of protection against enemy anti-tank weapons. According to the source, the short-barreled gun is necessary for close range operations in urban combat.

The UVZ representative also added that the main purpose of the Shturm complex is to identify and suppress long-term firing points, to eliminate enemy manpower, primarily anti-tank crews.

In addition to a tank cannon, the Shturm can be equipped with jet flamethrowers or a pair of rapid-fire 30-millimeter guns, RIA Novosti reported.

The main tasks of such combat robots will be the destruction of enemy fortifications and units with anti-tank weapons.
