Russian Government Intends to Increase Ship Exports Tenfold
OREANDA-NEWS. Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev signed a strategy for the development of the shipbuilding industry, according to which the number of ships being built in the country and the volume of shipments of products of the sector for export by 2035 should grow several times.
The head of the government explained that he believes the provisions of the document would be implemented correctly and it would lead to the achievement of these goals. “The main goal is to increase the share of Russian ships in the global shipbuilding market, especially in the civilian sector. Now our main export potential is concentrated in military shipbuilding. We are one of the few countries that offer almost the entire range of weapons models. As for civilian products, the situation is worse,” Medvedev said at a meeting with deputy prime ministers.
The politician pointed out the need to increase the supply of civilian ships and marine equipment to the world market without losses in domestic needs. In accordance with the strategy, by 2035 the volume of exports should grow by almost ten times, and the total volume of civil shipbuilding production by almost seven times. “The strategy defines the components of this process: they are an innovative renewal of the industry and the maximum localization of production in Russia,” Medvedev emphasized.
Earlier in October, Aleksey Rakhmanov, the head of the United Shipbuilding Corporation, announced difficulties in localizing the production of the engines. “The issues of localization… are currently marking time,” the top manager said.
Before that, at the end of 2018, Rakhmanov stated that the company would produce civilian vessels.
