OREANDA-NEWS The government has agreed to freeze prices with manufacturers of cardboard for packaging. This is reported by Kommersant with reference to sources.
Following a meeting at the Ministry of Industry and Trade, key cardboard manufacturers agreed not to raise prices for this type of packaging for three to six months. According to Alexey Dyachenko, Sales Director of Arkhangelsk Pulp and Paper Mill, the stabilization of the industry and a common understanding of what is happening helped to achieve this.
Earlier, the Federal Antimonopoly Service (FAS) filed a case against Arkhangelsk Pulp and Paper Mill JSC due to an increase in paper and cardboard prices by more than 40 percent. The ministry said that due to the increase in the cost of products, a number of goods using cardboard in packaging are becoming more expensive - from medicines to household chemicals. The regulator stressed that the prices set with the company exceeded the amount of necessary expenses and profits. The companies were also threatened with a turnover fine of up to 15 percent of revenue.
The ACBC stated that the price increase is of a restorative nature after a twofold drop in early 2022 and added that they look at the assessment of the packaging cardboard market differently from the Federal Antimonopoly Service.
