OREANDA-NEWS A subsidiary of Rosatom is completing the construction of a uranium processing plant in Tanzania and in the coming years will move to a serious industrial volume of its extraction and processing, Russian Ambassador to Tanzania Andrey Avetisyan said in an interview with RIA Novosti.

"Rosatom's subsidiary Mantra in Tanzania is implementing a uranium mining project. Now, as far as I know, they are completing the construction of a uranium processing plant and in the coming months, I think we will hear that this small pilot project has been launched," Avetisyan said.

"In the coming years, if it develops successfully, the company will move to a serious industrial volume of uranium mining and processing," he added.

Earlier, on the eve of the Russia-Africa summit, the nuclear state Corporation told RIA Novosti that Rosatom plans to start pilot production and processing of uranium ore in Tanzania in 2023-2025.

Nuclear technologies for Africa's development will be one of the topics of discussion at the second Russia-Africa Summit and Economic Forum, which will be held on July 27-28 in St. Petersburg.
