OREANDA-NEWS Rosatom State Corporation will become a customer for the construction of four diesel icebreakers with a capacity of 40 MW each. This was told by the special representative of the corporation for the development of the Arctic, Vladimir Panov. A series of vessels, according to him, will be created according to a single project. Construction should begin in 2024, after the St. Petersburg Central Design Bureau Iceberg (controlled by Rosneft) completes work on their technical design. The lead icebreaker should be put into operation in 2028.

The indicative cost of one icebreaker, according to Panov, is today more than 30 billion rubles. Thus, a series of four vessels will cost 120 billion rubles. A more accurate construction cost will be determined upon completion of the technical project and will depend on the characteristics of the equipment, he added. The interlocutor of Vedomosti, who is close to Rosatom, clarified that the price is likely to be "adjusted in a big way."
