OREANDA-NEWS. Egypt's complete rejection of Russian wheat will become a problem for Russia, says Vasily Uzun, chief researcher at the RANEPA Center for Agricultural Policy. As he said in an interview with NSN, due to problems with logistics, wheat supplies from the Russian Federation to Egypt can be replaced by the United States, Canada, Argentina and other countries.
He recalled that Egypt imports more than ten million tons of grain, which is mainly used to make bread. This is about half of all the wheat coming to Egypt. Earlier it became known that due to the disruption of supply chains as a result of a special operation, Cairo signed a contract for the purchase of 350,000 tons of wheat with a number of European countries.
Uzun noted that 350,000 tons are small numbers, it is easy to find such a volume of grain.
But the conclusion of contracts by Egypt with other countries is unpleasant. In addition, if a complete rejection of Russian wheat follows, it will be a big problem for us,” the scientist added.
Representatives of the Ansar Allah Houthi movement in Yemen said at the end of March that they agreed to buy wheat from Russia using rubles as payment, Mohammed Ali al-Houthi, a member of the Supreme Council of the movement's Politburo, said on Twitter. The leadership of the movement considered it a good idea to transfer the payment in the national currency and are already taking steps to establish cooperation.
