OREANDA-NEWS. Honda has decided to recall about 2.7 million cars in North America due to airbag problems. This is stated in a statement issued on Wednesday by the concern.
The recall applies to the United States and Canada and covers a number of models of Honda and its premium brand Acura, produced between 1996 and 2003. It is noted that the problem is the malfunction of the squib in the airbags of Takata. Because of it, the pillows may not open or open incorrectly during an accident. Moreover, the defect differs from that which led to a large-scale revocable campaign several years ago. Another Japanese automaker, Toyota, also announced the recall of 3.4 million cars worldwide due to the same problem.
The Japanese company Takata was at the center of the scandal in 2014. As the experts of the US regulatory authorities have established, airbags made by Takata due to a malfunction during an accident may not open correctly, but burst or shoot pieces of metal at people inside the car. Due to such incidents in the world, at least 23 people died, several hundred were injured. In total, at least 100 million cars of various brands were recalled around the world, and in 2017 Takata went bankrupt.
