Ex-Prime Minister of Slovakia Explained Trust in Sputnik V
OREANDA-NEWS. The Prime Minister of Slovakia Igor Matovic by purchasing the Russian Sputnik V vaccine hopes not only to improve the fight against coronavirus, but also to raise his rating, using the high authority of Russian science and the pro-Russian sentiments of a significant part of the country's population. This is the opinion of the former Slovak Prime Minister Jan Czarnogursky.
In recent weeks, one of the most popular topics for debate has been the start of deliveries to the country of the Russian Sputnik V vaccine.
According to Jan Czarnogursky, the main reason for the catastrophic fall in the authority of Matovich and his party was the impulsive behavior of the prime minister in the fight against coronavirus, the first battle with which was taken by the previous Cabinet of Social Democrats. Gradually, the epidemiological situation in the country deteriorated more and more, and as a result, in January 2021, the five-millionth Slovakia became one of the European leaders in the growth of patients with coronavirus infection, and Matovic was also blamed for this.
Matovich brought the issue of purchasing the Russian vaccine to a cabinet meeting on February 18, but failed - Deputy Prime Minister Veronika Remishova blocked it, arguing that Sputnik V was not registered with the EMA.
Not finding support in the Cabinet, the Prime Minister via Facebook directly addressed his compatriots about the trust in the Russian vaccine. Matovic urged his colleagues to abandon the geopolitical approach when choosing vaccines, and to think, first of all, about the health of fellow citizens, relying in this matter on the world-recognized achievements of Russian science. Unable to find support from the legal parties, without warning any of the Cabinet members, the prime minister conducts successful and virtually secret negotiations with the Russian representatives responsible for the delivery of Sputnik V, and sends a plane to Moscow for the first batch of vaccine.
Meanwhile, the head of the Ministry of Health Marek Krajci, at the suggestion of the prime minister, issued a permit for the use of Sputnik V in the country.
