OREANDA-NEWS. The EU intends to donate at least 100 million doses of coronavirus vaccines to the poorest countries by the end of 2021, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said in a video message ahead of the G20 Global Health Summit in Rome.

She said: "The EU aims to donate at least one hundred million doses to middle and low income countries by the end of 2021."

As for the volume of vaccinations in leading countries, by May 18, at least 23 million doses of coronavirus vaccine had been used in Russia, RBC calculated based on data from regional ministries of health and operational headquarters on the number of citizens who received one dose, as well as completed a full course of immunization. According to this indicator, the country is in 11th place in the world. The real number of doses used is higher, since in some regions, including Moscow, there is no actual data on those who received the second dose of the drug.

The leaders in terms of the proportion of the population who received at least one dose of the vaccine include Israel (60%), the United Kingdom (55.1%) and the United States (48.2%). In Russia, 9.5% of the total population of the country received the first component of the vaccine. When determining the leaders, China (it is in the first place in terms of doses used) and the United Arab Emirates were not taken into account, since these countries do not provide a breakdown by the number of people vaccinated and only disclose the number of doses used.
