China's «Changan» has Released a Compact Electric Car «BenBen E-Star», which costs $4 600
OREANDA-NEWS. The Chinese company «Changan» has released a simplified version of the «BenBen E-Star» – compact electric car, called the «National Edition». The cost of the new product surprised – only $4 600 (about 29 800 yuan).
In terms of overall dimensions, the Chinese novelty is comparable to the «Hyundai Getz»: the length and wheelbase, according to the «passport», are 3 730 and 2 410 millimeters. The equipment also matches the price: for the sake of economy, «Changan» engineers deprived the electric car of LED optics, airbags, electric mirrors and even air conditioning. The «National Edition» does not have other nice options like a digital «dashboard» and a media system with a 10-inch touchscreen.
There are only electric window lifters, central locking, anti-lock brakes (ABS), tire pressure monitoring system and basic audio preparation with the most common standard radio. The cheapest «BenBen E-Star» is powered by a single electric motor with 41 horsepower (150 Nm), which is powered by a lithium-iron-phosphate battery with a capacity of 23.38 kilowatt/hours with a power reserve of 150 kilometers.
Whether such a citicar will appear outside of China, it is difficult to say, but, apparently, in the near future this can definitely not be expected. At least, because of the lack of initial passive security.
