New England’s Everett LNG gets cargo

OREANDA-NEWS. April 12, 2016. The Everett LNG import terminal outside Boston, Massachusetts, has received a cargo, according to shipping records.

The BW GDF Suez Everett vessel docked at the terminal yesterday and left the facility today, unloading a cargo from Trinidad and Tobago. The vessel has capacity of 138,000m, equivalent to about 2.8 Bcf (79mn m) of gas.

Everett is typically the busiest US LNG import facility, as New England still has notable LNG demand in the winter because of regional pipeline constraints.

Combined sendout from Everett so far this year into the Algonquin and Tennessee Gas interstate pipeline systems has averaged about 76mn cf/d, down by 37pc from the average of about 122mn cf/d during the same period last year. New England's gas demand dropped in the winter of 2015-16 because of relatively mild El Nino conditions.

Everett sends much of its gas to the nearby Mystic gas-fired power plant via an intrastate pipeline, but those volumes are not reported to regulators.

Everett imported a gas equivalent of 49.7 Bcf in 2015, or 54pc of the country's total.
