OREANDA-NEWS. April 11, 2016. Oyster Creek Generating Station’s longstanding commitment to environmental stewardship has earned it the Wildlife Habitat Council’s Conservation Certification. This distinction honors the station’s continued focus on protecting the environment and native habitats near Oyster Creek.

Each year, Oyster Creek partners with environmental organizations like the Lighthouse Center for Natural Resource Education, New Jersey Audubon Society, and the FishHawks to promote environmental preservation. Butterfly gardens, bat houses and protected areas on site also serve as conservatories for area wildlife. Exelon is committed to ensuring that these partnerships and programs continue well beyond the station’s retirement in 2019.

“In partnership with Exelon Generation’s Oyster Creek Station, we have been able to accomplish a number of tasks that the Board of Directors of the Natural Resource Education Foundation would not have been able to accomplish,” explained Pola Galie, operations manager of the Lighthouse Center for Natural Resource Education.

The Wildlife Habitat Council is renowned for its ongoing efforts toward biodiversity conservation across the globe. Its mission is to promote and certify habitat conservation and management on corporate lands through partnerships and education.
