Sumitomo Electric Receives Order for Traffic Control System in Cambodia
This project aims to mitigate traffic congestion and improve traffic safety, thereby promoting Phnom Penh's economic activities. Sumitomo Electric will set up new signal controllers, traffic lights for vehicles and pedestrians, and vehicle detectors in 100 intersections around the city, along with 26 traffic monitoring cameras. In addition, the company will build an optical cable network and traffic control center in order to collect real-time traffic information from the vehicle detectors. These will help realize a signal control appropriate for each traffic situation and thus optimize traffic flows.
Sumitomo Electric has thus far introduced its traffic control system technology to Thailand and Myanmar as part of pilot studies conducted by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA). Drawing on such rich experience, the company is committed in this project to introduce the country's first full-fledged traffic control system.
Encouraged by the system delivery this time, the company intends to offer and introduce a traffic control system appropriate for each country in Southeast Asia and other regions of the world, with consideration given to each country's traffic situation. By doing so, Sumitomo Electric will contribute to the improvement of traffic congestion and creation of a comfortable traffic environment.
