Dmitry Cheltsov, who leads the IRU’s work in Eurasia, addressed the 4th Euro-Asian Logistics Conference organised by the Russian Chamber of Commerce and Industry and attended by the delegates from over 10 countries. He highlighted how TIR geographical expansion promotes Eurasian integration strengthening trade and economic ties between the countries of the region and beyond. Road transport has created a land link connecting Europe and Asia, providing a full range of competitive transport and logistics services. Being the most dynamic and market oriented sector, it is driving the joint partnership between the Eurasian Economic Union and the “Silk Road Economic Belt” project.

The functioning and development of international road transport corridors requires coordinated policies focused on eliminating administrative, technical and economic burdens throughout the route. Harmonisation and better planning based on tried and tested global UN trade facilitation instruments, notably TIR, enables the goals of higher speed, better service, lower costs, safety and stability to be achieved.
