UPS Appoints Juan R. Perez Chief Information Officer As Dave Barnes Announces Retirement
OREANDA-NEWS. UPS® (NYSE:UPS) announced Juan R. Perez, is named Chief Information Officer effective April 1, replacing Chief Information and Global Business Services Officer Dave Barnes, who elected to retire after 38 years with the company. Barnes will continue with UPS through June 30 to ensure a smooth transition of responsibilities

"Juan Perez has 26 years of UPS experience in U.S. Domestic, International, and Supply Chain Solutions (SCS). He began his UPS career in 1990 as an intern in Los Angeles, CA and held numerous assignments of increasing responsibility across several UPS business units in operations, industrial engineering, quality, and technology. Perez spent the previous 6 years in Information Systems (I.S.) leadership roles ranging from supply chain solutions applications, to operational and customer resource management technologies, as well as overall coordination of I.S. activities for multiple international regions.
Perez was a key member of the group that defined the foundation for UPS operational technology tools and strategies used today to facilitate driver scheduling, package delivery operations, and many technology-enabled services. Perez also worked with the IT team that developed the On-Road Integrated Optimization and Navigation (ORION) system used by UPS operations to optimize delivery routes to improve service and efficiency. Orion has been recognized for exceptional innovation by several technology and science organizations and publications. In 2013, Perez was recognized by Computerworld as a Premier 100 IT Leader.
Perez holds a BS in Industrial Engineering from the University of Southern California and an MS in Computer and Manufacturing Engineering. He has contributed to several patents in support of UPS’ intellectual property. Perez actively serves as coordinator for the UPS Latino Business Resource Group (BRG), a company-sponsored program that supports diversity within our communities, customers, people, and suppliers.
Dave Barnes began his UPS career in St. Louis, MO as a part-time package loader in 1977. Barnes established a long track record for innovation and customer focus throughout his UPS career. He held key positions during UPS's global expansion beginning in the late 1980s, combining his financial expertise and knowledge of the transportation industry and daily business operations with expertise in innovation and technology.

Technology developed under Dave Barnes’ leadership includes a wide range of innovative solutions such as the Delivery Information Acquisition Device (DIAD) carried by UPS drivers, advanced package flow technologies, UPS My Choice® mobile solutions, and telematics programs that provide real time updates on UPS vehicles. In addition, he has been responsible for Global Business Services which includes shared services support for human resources, accounting, procurement, and customer contact centers.
