Ford Indiacelebrated the completion of Clean India project
OREANDA-NEWS. March 30, 2016. Going further in its commitment to the community, Ford India recently celebrated the completion of Thooimai Bharatham (Clean India), a project aimed at creating a sustainable environment in areas around the Chennai plant.
With support from NGO partner Hand in Hand India, a green common area – spreading 3,300 square meters – was cleaned of debris, given a new soil treatment and new plants and flowers. Also installed in an area around the plant in Maraimalai Nagar were a permanent sprinkler system and a rock garden.
Speaking on the occasion, Balasundaram Radhakrishnan, site plant manager, Chennai Vehicle Assembly and Engine Plant, Ford India, spoke about Ford’s increasing involvement in community development.
“With Thooimai Bharatham, we are proud to be coming together in support of the government’s vision of a Clean India,” said Balasundaram. “The green cover that we have created not only promotes sustainability but also proves to be a clean and safe passage for pedestrians and motorists.”
Joining the Chennai plant senior management at the inauguration were Human Resources representatives from Vignesh Medicare’s Pvt. Ltd, Visteon, and the Deputy CEO from Hand in Hand India. A plaque was also presented at the event, commemorating the construction of the common area and Ford’s partnership with Hand in Hand India.
This project aligns with Prime Minister Modi’s initiative – The Swacch Bharat Mission – a project that seeks to create a Clean India with the support and participation of all of the city’s citizens, businesses and government institutions.
To keep the project’s momentum going, Ford India will work with valued supplier partners to ensure the success and sustainment of the project.
