ASE Group of Companies presents in Dhaka the first children’s book on the atomic energy in Bengali
OREANDA-NEWS. АSE Group of Companies, which is in the management circle of State Atomic Energy Corporation Rosatom, presented the first popular science children’s book on the atomic energy in Bengali, named The Nuclear ABC, in Dhaka. The presentation took part at the Nuclear Industry Information Center in the city of Dhaka as a part of the Children and the Atom event commemorating the Independence Day of Bangladesh.
“The interest in new technologies needs to be nurtured from school age, by increasing the attractiveness of scientific and technical professions. It therefore gives me great pleasure to announce the opening of the Children and the Atom event which will allow Bangladesh pupils to draw their own vision of their country’s future. They will also receive a guide to the atomic industry, the ABC book, which we will present today and submit to schools in the provinces of Dhaka and Pabna. The book will also be distributed among visitors of the Atomic Industry Information Center in Dhaka, which plays an essential role in educating the population on basic principles of nuclear energy”, said Mr. Maksim V. Elchishchev, Vice-president of ASE Group of Companies for project in Bangladesh, in his welcome address.
The presentation of the book was supported by the Ministry of the Science and Technology and Ministry of Education of Bangladesh as well as Bangladesh Atomic Energy Commission. The book became the first printed material in Bengali language with the nuclear energy basics explained for children in simple words. It was presented by Abul Basher Md. Zahurul Islam, director of the Nuclear Industry Information Center in the city of Dhaka, and Philipp Kosov, Rosatom official representative in Bangladesh.
“Rosatom has been dubbed a “Knowledge Corporation” for its knowledge-intensive industry and high technologies. We realize that an interest to new technologies should be fostered since childhood. Therefore, today, we are presenting The Nuclear ABC, a popular science children’s book on the atomic energy. I hope that this book will arouse interest of today’s students and inspire some of them to choose a profession of atomic scientist in the future”, said Philipp Kosov.
Abul Basher Md. Zahurul Islam, director of the Nuclear Industry Information Center in the city of Dhaka, and Philipp Kosov, Rosatom representative in Bangladesh, handed over a part of the print run of the book to Dhaka school teachers during the event with the remaining part to be sent to schools at Ishwardi Upazila, Pabna District, where Rooppur NPP, the first nuclear power plant in Bangladesh, is to be constructed.
Presentation of The Nuclear ABC children’s book is a part of Bangladesh–Russia Strategy for Promoting Communication in Bangladesh Nuclear Power for 2015–2021. The strategy which was signed in January, 2015 is intended to inform the local population on basic principles of nuclear energy as well as its advantages, safety, sustainability and economic efficiency.
